Ahhh, the long weekend. Here's hoping for sun and warm temperatures. We are planning on laying low this weekend. It has been a crazy few weeks around here so being able to just sit back and relax is a welcome thought.
If you however, have plans to entertain for the Memorial Day weekend, I am here to give you some great ideas to make your party one to remember.
Start with simple and easy decor. Glasses covered in patriot looking paper and finished off with miniature flags are a great centerpiece.
Red, white and blue is fine but to make it look more like Memorial Day than the 4th of July by choosing tableware that looks more Americana than holiday specific. This red bandana table runner paired with white dishes hits just the right note.
Skip the usual burgers and try these bacon wrapped bratwursts. Served in parchment with a side of slaw is a great alternative to the usual BBQ fare.
Avoid playing bartender and missing all the fun by serving drinks like this sangria which can be made in big batches and set out for guests to serve themselves.
Don't forget dessert. This berry tart looks impressive but is not hard to make. The red and blue berries tie into the party theme.
No Memorial Day barbecue would be complete without fun games to keep the party going. Bocce ball, volleyball, croquet or lawn twister are all great ways to pass the time.
Entertaining doesn't have to be overwhelming. Stick with a simple menu and decorations and you will enjoy the day as much as your guests will.
Happy Memorial Day!
