Islands have become highly requested items in kitchen design. In addition to the fact that it provides a vast amount of counter space, it also provides a great hang out space for your family and guests. Since everyone tends to gather in the kitchen, it makes sense to have a area where everyone can congregate comfortably.
The possibilities for the design of an island are endless. You can design them with or without seating, have a sink or a cooktop installed or have space for a beverage fridge or microwave. Whatever your needs you can usually find an island design that is right for you.
Despite all these choices, most islands tend to follow the same design pattern. So, when I run across items that are unique I just have to share them. Check out these unique island designs.
Now this is thinking outside the box. Seating that is there when you need it but hidden when you don't.

Make the most of an unique layout with an equally unique shaped island.
Is your kitchen open to an adjacent sitting area? Add a focal point with an ethanol burning fireplace.
Or, install you t.v. in the island so the kitchen becomes part of your living space.
Create a more comfortable place to sit by changing out stools for a built in bench.
