Bring on Spring

Spring in the midwest can be a real drag. One day is warm and sunny, the next cold and snowing. It seems like Spring will never arrive. I cannot wait until the flowers are blooming and I can have my windows open again to let in fresh air. Not to mention enjoy the sunny days.

Until that happens, take matters into your own hands and bring Spring inside. Add fresh flowers to your table. Swap out dark pillows for bright and cheery ones. Take down your heavy curtains and replace them with light and airy ones. Small touches can go a long way to brighten your space until Spring arrives.

Try some of these ideas on for size.

A budding forsythia is an early sign that winter is over, but you can make it feel like spring anytime with Pier 1's brightly blooming Artificial Forsythia Branch.:

Kabuni - A New Way to Decorate

For any of you that follow me on Facebook, you may have seen my post that I have joined Kabuni. Kabuni is a mobile app that was built for the design enthusiast who is looking for inspiration. Designers post inspiration and portfolio boards along with products so you can get that look. It is great for those who like to do things themselves but need a place to start.

Know the feeling you want from a space but you are not sure how to get it? Kabuni can help. Want your room to feel like a tropical island or piece of art? Search for inspiration boards that meet those criteria and find products to help you achieve that look. Like a certain designers style but don't see what you are looking for? Message them what you like and they will create a board for you.

Interested? Here are a few inspiration boards I created to show you how it works.

Love what you see? Download the Kabuni app on your mobile device and get decorating today. If you love Houzz and Pinterest, this app is for you.

Style Spotter - Refined Rustic

Reclaimed wood is everywhere in design these days. From wall cladding to furniture you can find it in in some form or fashion at your favorite home store. Generally reclaimed wood is used in rustic interiors reminiscent of log cabins with a more modern vibe. However, it is making headway in more refined spaces as well. Spaces that are more formal and traditional.

Crazily enough, it works. The texture and warmth of the wood actually lends itself quite well to more formal spaces. When paired with elegant chandeliers and tailored furnishings the result is elegant and refined. These spaces show that mixing rustic and refined creates a gorgeous space that is upscale but unfussy.

The key to pulling off this design style is sticking to a simple neutral palette. Accents of black or bronze give punch and textural elements like linen and stone create warmth and interest. Be inspired by these spaces.
