Commercial Spaces to Copy at Home

Once in a while I will walk into a commercial space, usually a store or restaurant, and instantly think "I would love to live here." Do you ever get that feeling?

There is just something about these spaces that speak to me. Whether it is a paint color I would love to have in my home, furnishings that would look perfect in my space or a light fixture I covet, it always amazes me how inspiration can strike me in the most unlikely places.

Check out these gorgeous commercial spaces that have style worth copying in your own home.

There are many things I love about this space including the black wall against the brick. To duplicate this look in your space, paint a wall black and add an interesting wall decal next to a stone or brick wall or fireplace. The beautiful wood floor would look great in any space. Industrial style lighting works perfectly with the overall design. The chunky wood counter would translate well into a kitchen island or console table.

Clean lined modern spaces are relaxing to me. Everything about this space would translate well into any home. Light wood cabinets and medium tone wood floors work well with white walls. A simple table with bucket chairs in a sophisticated taupe are easy to duplicate at home. Add neutral table linens and a statement light fixture and you have this style nailed.

White done right. Mostly white spaces provide the perfect backdrop for your accessories. A contrasting wood floor provides just the right balance to the white table, lighting and cabinetry. Add in pops of color and texture (like the baskets) for a beachy, relaxed feel.

Want a feminine space or looking to decorate a girls room? This color palette has it all. Bright chartreuse green, bubble gum pink and white make for a sweet space. The polka dot wall decals add interest to the white wall and make the chartreuse soffit pop. The cylinder shaped pendant light would look great hung above a nightstand or over a desk. Accents of teal, green and yellow add the finishing touch.

International design magazine Visual Merchandising and Store Design (VMSD) featured the brand Graphica developed for Sweeterie, a chic new Cincinnati-based cupcake bakery, on its cover. Graphica designed the logomark and color palette for the retail space as well as the bakery’s marketing materials.

Create an inviting outdoor space like this. Soft neutrals, a comfy upholstered loveseat, simple elevated lanterns and a oversized pendant light make this a space you want to relax in. Put it all under a white, roofed arbor and you have got yourself one amazing space to hang out.

Bring this look inside to create an elegant dining space. Paint or wallpaper one wall in a dark moody hue. Add a round mirror in distressed wood or brushed gold hung above a stylish console table. The round dining table echos the shape of the mirror and the upholstered chairs add elegance. Finish with stylish lamps and an oversized burlap or linen fixture for instant sophistication. Adding curtains to the room's entryway creates a cozy and glamorous space.

Ceiling Lights with Style

Home Chic Home

I am currently shopping around for ceiling lights to replace the current ones we have in our hallway (pictured above). The ones we have now are inexpensive, difficult to remove to change the bulb and are not working very well.

When it comes to lighting hall lights are not the first thing that come to mind when thinking of how to add style to your home. Traditional simple flush mount lights are the norm when it comes to lighting up a hallway however, there are many options out there that can add some serious style.

Whether it is your entryway hallway, back hallway or the one upstairs, don't overlook your lighting as an opportunity to add style. As the above photo shows you, you don't have to have flushmount lights in a hallway. Semi-flushmount and small pendants work as well. It is the little details that take a home from nice to knockout.

All these amazing fixtures make it hard for me to choose. Check back with me and I will update you on my hallway's new look. Whichever one it is, it is sure to add more style then I have now.

Happy decorating!

What's New in Tile

I would say over the last few years that subway tiles, glass mosaics and marble have been the trends to follow in tile. Whether they are used as backsplashes, shower tiles or merely as accents these have been the predominant styles to emulate. While all three are still popular in design, new styles are starting to crop up that may just become the new "must-have" look.

Textured tiles are starting to gain in popularity. They range from fabric looks to wood grain to three dimensional tiles. The added pattern in the tile adds interest and dimension.

Colors of Spring

Trends in home decor, like in fashion, come and go. Every season heralds in new hues as the "go-to" colors of the moment. Despite this ongoing cycle of colors Spring has a palette all its own. Every year at this time, retailers roll out their Spring line in hues of blue, green, pink and yellow. No matter the changing times, these Spring hues remain strong year after year.

Get into the "Spring" of things with this years' new arrivals in home decor. Here's what's hot for Spring.

Great Products to Organize Your Kitchen

I don't know about you but, my kitchen is the most unorganized room in the house. Be it papers from school, junk mail, disorganized drawers and things stuffed into the pantry my kitchen is far from a relaxing space. While I do try to keep my home organized, sometimes even my best efforts are not good enough. My kitchen is small and cabinet space is limited. Additionally, I have a tiny pantry that is not outfitted to make the best use of the space.

If you are like me, take heart. There are many products out there that can make even the smallest kitchen more efficient and less cluttered.

Think vertically. Modular wall organizers are a great way to maximize storage. This one can hold knives, small plates, utensils, spices you name it. It can even put your cup for coffee within easy reach.

Free up cabinet space by storing pots and pans on a tall shelf. You can even use some shelves for cookbooks or bowls. S-hooks allow for hanging smaller frying pans or dishtowels.

Clever Hidden Storage Ideas

When remodeling a space the first thought is usually how it will look in the end. The layout, the finishes and lighting are what comes to mind. However, how the space functions is equally as important and can dramatically improve how you feel about a space.

After the initial decision of how you want a space to look, think about little things that can make it function better for you. Need some inspiration? Try these great ideas on for size.

Need extra workspace but not all the time? Try a workspace that pulls out from an island or counter.

Crystal Cabinets

Create a space in the kitchen or dining room to pay bills or watch the kids on the internet without having to see clutter, by converting a cabinet into a work area. A flip down door, pull out shelf or flip front door will create workspace but stay hidden when not in use.

No tub? No worries. Convert the space between the wall studs to a built in cabinet. Either leave the front open or add a door like this. Perfect for rooms where space is at a premium.

built between wall studs, behind the door in the tiny bath. This storage unit doesn't take up an inch of floor space. cabinet is recessed into the wall to boost storage in a small bathroom . To make it uber-cheap, you could use a sturdy, reinforced picture frame/glass for the door. The glass is a lot thinner, so not for households with wee ones that tend to slam!

Hide a family command center in the end of a shallow cabinet. Insert a corkboard in the door recess to have a place to hang a calendar and important reminders.

No place to put an ironing board? Convert a drawer in your bathroom, closet, kitchen or laundry room into a pull out ironing board.

Don't just think form, think function when redesigning or updating a space. Adding clever storage solutions like this will make life a whole lot easier and clutter free.

Swoon Worthy Baths

Currently I am working on a couple of projects where I am choosing finishes for bathrooms. In all of my researching on the internet to find the right mix of products, I inevitably stumble upon some images that take my breath away and make me wish money was no object and I could duplicate that look in my own home.

Here are just a few swoon worthy bathrooms I stumbled upon.
