Trend Alert - Painted Ceilings

2016 will soon be upon us and you can expect that new trends in interior design will start popping up everywhere. One such trend is painted ceilings. Not the faux or decorative painting of the past, rather single hued ceilings in bolder colors than the walls.

Painting the ceiling a hue other than white, can really make an impact in a room. It can add interest without being overwhelming. It can add coziness to a room with high ceilings or accentuate trim detail that would otherwise go unnoticed.

See for yourself how painting your ceiling can really make an impact in your space.

Kids Table for Holiday Dinners

If you happen to be hosting dinner for Christmas or New Years you may find that you don't have enough seating for everyone to sit at the same table. Many people opt to put the adults at one table and kids at another. While it is nice to have everyone in one place, giving kids their own space can be fun for them and you. Think relaxing dinner without numerous interruptions.

Looking for some kid table inspiration? Try these on for size.

Put a smile on their face and give them a few things to nibble on with this adorable snowman tablescape.

Skip the traditional tablecloth in favor of craft paper. Add some seasonal coloring pages and colored pencils to keep boredom at bay.

Add a simple game to the table to pass the time before or after dinner.

This snowman dice game can’t get any easier to prepare and play! It’s great for kids and adults of all ages- my young kids love it, but you could also have your teenage children play it to see who gets out of doing the dishes after dinner- get creative!:

Have a little gift waiting for them to make it feel special and give them something to do. Mini Legos, small activity books or mini crafts are all great gift ideas.

I wouldn't have minded sitting at the kid's table all those years if it looked like this.....Kids Christmas Table:

Start a New Christmas Eve Tradition

It is always fun to start a new tradition. What better time than on Christmas Eve. Looking to create memories that will last a lifetime? Start a new Christmas Eve tradition of your own. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.

1. Christmas Eve Busy Box. Fill a wrapped box with crafts, activity books, markers, cozy slippers, hot chocolate and marshmallows for the little ones to open and keep busy waiting for Santa to arrive.

2. Christmas Eve Scavenger Hunt. Print out this premade list or create your own, then pack into the car to view Christmas lights and see whether you can find them all.

3. Secret Santa with a twist. Pull names from a hat, choose a low dollar amount (less than $5) and take a ride to the nearest store. Find gifts without being seen (kids should be split between the parents). Come home and exchange the gifts.

4. Play the Tommy Wright Game. Wrap enough small gifts for each person (things like lip balm, lottery tickets, candy, etc). Have each person pick up a gift. One person reads the Tommy Wright story (find it here). Each time the person says "right" or "left" in the story the gifts pass in that direction. Whatever gift you have at the end of the story is yours to keep.

5. Play Christmas themed Minute-to-Win it games like these. This one picture below is my favorite but there are tons more!

Holiday Table - Place Cards

For Christmas dinner it is only my husband, our two children, myself and each of our mothers. Both of our families are spread far and wide, so the holidays are small and intimate.  Even so, I still take out our china and nice wine glasses and set a festive table. The holidays just don't feel like the holidays unless there is a pretty table to sit at to eat all that delicious food.

One thing I like to add to my table setting is place cards. While there are only six of us, I think place cards make the experience extra special. Whether whimsical or formal, they add the finishing touch to any special meal.

Here are some great place card ideas I want to try.

Winter Wonderland

With only a few days left until Christmas my family is yearning for some snow. While there is currently a dusting on the ground, the current forecast for Christmas Eve and Day is in the mid 40's and 50's. Definitely not snow weather.

Since it does not look like there will be snow. I thought I would share some Christmas snow images to get those without it, in the spirit.

Great Stocking Stuffers

I don't know about you, but stocking stuffers are the worst for me. It always seems that I can't come up with a single creative idea to put in our stockings. My ideas are either too big to fit or too expensive to justify putting in a stocking.

This year I am determined to find great stocking stuffers that are unique and fun. Check out some of these great ideas.
