Trimming the Tree

Thanksgiving weekend we made our annual trek to the Christmas tree farm to cut down our tree. We started this tradition a few years ago and plan to keep it. It is almost magical to arrive at the farm, take the tractor ride out to the field, select the tree, cut it down and end the trip with hot chocolate and doughnuts. Once home, we put up the tree and commenced decorating.

Choosing the right tree is always a debate for us. Here is my son "helping" my husband cut down the tree and them hauling it back to the tractor to make our way home.

After our fill of hot chocolate and doughnuts, it was home to decorate the tree. This year the kids are finally at the age where they can actually participate. Our decorations are whimsical and kid friendly. There are plenty of santas, reindeer and snowman to go around. I like it this way. Before children, our tree was color coordinated to our decor and nary a snowman or santa was to be found. Although I loved our high styled Christmas, I am happy that it has given way to our current version. Traditional red, green and white are the stars of the show.

The theme is continued on the mantle and spread throughout the house. Now that the decorating is complete, it truly feels like Christmas.
