I am currently working with a client who is building a new home. My most recent task was to choose light fixtures that would work for them both inside and out. To me, the kitchen is one area where you can go the traditional route or, if you want to make a statement, choose lighting that does not fit the standard mode. There are many beautiful light fixtures available from a vast array of sources. Home stores, hardware stores and lighting stores are chock full of beautiful options.

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to lighting. Nothing says you need to have a recessed light over your sink or that you need to have mini pendants over your island. If you want a chandelier over your islands or pendants over your sink then go for it. Adding these unique elements are what make well designed spaces. It is what catches your eye when you spot them in a magazine. It is what makes the space uniquely you.
